My new picture book – The Gorgy Creech!

Come September 2nd, readers everywhere can discover The Gorgy Creech, my new children’s picture book, which is widely available online. The story is aimed at young children, ages six to eight.

The Gorgy Creech, the book’s star, is a quirky, gorgeous creature with luscious eyelashes and a fancy, multi-coloured, feathered tail. Adored by fans and the media, it faces a series of challenges, including a wardrobe malfunction, a love-struck leech, and finally new competition from a rising star, Titchy Glitzy Gasbag. Suddenly, our hero is struggling to stay on top!

I wanted this picture book to be more unconventional than my previous books. I’ve created vibrant and lively illustrations to really bring these characters to life, reflecting their unique and comical personalities. I also wanted the text to suit the story’s amusing and witty narrative, so incorporating elements of rhyme into the prose was fun. I think this text falls into the category of a book that would be read out loud first, then slowly tackled by the kids themselves.

I feel I’ve achieved a fun-filled, rib-tickling story, but not without exploring pertinent themes of goodwill and friendship. The tale concludes reminding the reader that ‘being popular’ is never a given. Sometimes, when our approval wanes, we can find a second wind if people are generous and where unity prevails over selfishness.

Creating the Gorgy Creech was a truly enjoyable experience. I hope parents and children will not only smile and giggle when reading it together but also find inspiration in its heartwarming message and feelgood finale long after the last page is turned.
