Ben graduated from the DIT College of Art, Dublin, with a Degree in Visual Communications. Subsequently, he worked as a creative designer and illustrator and decided to go freelance in 2010. In 2020, he completed a certificate in animation from Griffith College, Dublin. His passion for narrative and storytelling draws inspiration from both luminous childhood memories and many exciting years working in advertising. September 2023 will see the publication of Goozebob, a picture book for early readers focusing on global warming. “If Goozebob can help parents gently broach the subject of climate change with their children at storytime, I’d be delighted.” This book is the fourth Ben has written and illustrated. In 2022, he self-published The Nurchies children’s picture books, a series of three picture books for early readers. The Nurchies originate from a message by Pope Francis on his visit to Ireland in 2018, noting that three words underused in today’s world are ‘Please, Thank You and Sorry.’ Ben lives in Sandymount, Dublin, Ireland.

We hope you enjoy this short test animation of PLEASE and SORRY. I created these in Autodesk Maya. The characters are modelled and then rigged with controllers ready for animating. After producing the picture books it was really exciting to see The Nurchies ‘come to life!’ Although relatively simple in animation terms, it’s ‘work in progress’ and an impetus for a Nurchies animated series down the line.
